Found her thumb???

I hope so!!! Last night for the first time I found Kate sucking her thumb in the night. I know many of you will disagree with me on this but I REALLY want Kate to find her thumb. I find it so much more natural and attractive than a plug in their mouth. I know it can be a bad habit to break but so can so many other things that kids do. Thumb sucking seems like such a nice way to self soothe and is not offensive to me at all. Suck away Kate!
Did I mention she sleeps 9-10 hour stretches EVERY night for the past couple weeks. Goes to bed at 8 and does not wake again until at least 5. Now if I could just get to sleep at 8! HA!
Another note on sleep. This is the "Nap Nanny" Kate is sleeping in in the photo. Just got it but so far it's GREAT! Kate has a bit harder time getting to sleep for naps and she fell asleep in this all on her own the first time. They are a bit pricey but I found this one at a local discount sore and thought I would give it a try. I will keep you updated.

A good sport

Kate is a remarkably good sport when it comes to "playing" with Leah. This past week, Leah's interest in Kate has reached a whole new level. I really wanted Leah to like her. Well success! For the time being Leah LOVES her. Can't get enough of her really. We have new rules about leaving Kate alone while she is sleeping or eating and they are VERY hard for Leah to follow.

Rash

Kate developed a rash last Tuesday. We still don't know the cause but I took her in to Dr. Katie today to have a look. Benadryl and a steroid cream are the prescription. Poor girl. I really hope it is not a food allergy. For the moment I am off soy to see if it helps.
While we were there we went ahead and did her 2 month check-up. She is doing GREAT!

Weight 11lb 7oz    77%
Height 22.8 In     76%

Go Kate!

A few more pictures

Haircut, bath, and learning to read

This week Leah got her first "real" haircut. By real I mean that someone did it who actually knew what they were doing. It went ok, not great. There was a bit of crying and a bit more of screaming. It looks pretty good considering.
Kate and Leah also took their fist bath together last week. It's just so much easier than all the time it takes to do it separately. Plus Leah thinks it's great until Kate poops in the tub. Which so far has happened every time. Arrrg.
As many of you know, Leah spends much of her day "reading". The books that she knows well (about 80% of them) she actually knows most of the words and story by memory. But the ones she does not, or new books from the library, she just makes up a story to go along with the pictures. Very cute to listen to because it usually has to do with something that has happened in her world recently. But this week Leah has started really working on sounding out words. She has known all her alphabet and the sounds the letters make for many months and is eager for the next step! So far she has made it through the first BOB book called "Mat". These are beginning reading books and this whole book has only 4 words. But still, so cute! Now when she is "reading" her books she pretends to be sounding out the words. HA!

Cupcakes and happy sleep

Leah spoke with Dave on his way home from work yesterday. During their conversation she asked him  out of the blue if he wanted cupcakes. So we had to make some. Brown ones.

So far all of our many swaddle wraps that were such a neccesity with Leah have gone unused with Kate. She seems to always have one or both arms up while sleeping. Explains why it felt like she was trying to punch her way out for the last few months of pregnancy! Also, I only ever felt one foot kicking most of the pregnancy. After birth, Kate kept her legs crossed at the ankle for many days and even had an indent on one of her ankles where that other one would rest. So I guess it was always both feet kicking together!

Reminder of Leah at 6 weeks

A few first smiles

Kate is almost 6 weeks old. She has been smiling since her one month birthday but they are getting much more frequent. She looks NOTHING like Leah at this age. She is so sweet and so much fun to have around.

Squeeze

Leah has ha VERY hard time not squeezing Kate EVERY time she touches her!

Asleep

Kate has been a Great sleeper so far. Last night she gave me a 9 hour stretch for mothers day, her longest yet! I am really hoping it's a new trend. She is growing and changing so fast. Smiles are getting more and more frequent and I am trying to catch one on camera. For now you just get the gaping mouth sleep photos!

Pooh

Leah has developed a nervous habit of biting her tongue and cheek when she is stressed. So with the new baby and all the visitors these last few weeks you can imagine how the inside of her mouth looks. Not good. When it gets sore, she has a VERY hard time letting me brush her teeth. So terrible mom has been bribing her with a small bit of Winnie the Pooh time before bed after she has brushed and bathed. Wow does she get into in. This is the shot of how the characters have to be lined up in their spots on the computer before the show starts. Love it!

Miles and Tori

We had another great visit with Miles and Tori this week. Miles was a bit shy about his cupcake face!

Cacella?

We have BUNNIES!!!! They are so fun and cute. They do have a job here on the farm as well. They are to keep the weeds trimmed under the fruit trees. There are so many roots under the trees that it is impossible to dig the weeds out and we don't want to spray any poison so....BUNNIES! Lets hope it works. Dave is in the process of making them a super nice home of course.
When we told Leah we might get bunnies her immediate response was "I want just one white bunny please. Just one white bunny." Then, when I found some online and there was a picture of a white one she thought about it for a good moment and shaking her head yes said " Ya, I'll take that one." She named it Cacella before we even went to pick it up. And the one she chose for Kate she named Zidela. Leah couldn't be like most two year olds and name it Bunny? I still can't remember Dave's bunny's name. Mine is Clementine, she is big. Not a bunny but a rabbit. The breeder had no use for her but she is super sweet and only 6 months old. They are all Rex rabbits, the super soft velveteen type. Oh fun!

Built for two

A dear friend that is moving passed along this super sturdy tandem tricycle as well as many other treasures. Thanks Vanessa! We really lucked out! Dave was hurting a bit last night though.
